Frequently asked Questions
What is a caricature?
A caricature, and we’re talking about a portrait-caricature, is nothing more than an exaggeration. The word Ca-ri-ca-ture comes from the lat./it. “caricare”, which stands for loading or overloading. Basically nothing is done but in a portrait, only the typical features are exaggerated. This exaggeration has the side effect that often the caricature bears more resemblance to the person than “a photo”, over this effect also the laughter is generated.
How long does Filippo need for a drawing?
From one to three minutes. Filippo can be very, very fast, this depends on the situation and the customer’s request. Filippo draws without pre-drawing, directly with his Japanese brush pencils on his own paper. His strokes are precise, clean and fast. Generally he needs 1 – 3 minutes for a caricature, depending on how many details are to be worked out, if the situation is favorable, Filippo builds up still small scenes and funny details. If you calculate the times that are needed to change the paper, to change the guest and to entertain the guests or to answer the questions that are asked, he creates an average of 15 guests per hour. In a trade fair situation with large crowds and 20-22 guests per hour are possible.
How many people can Filippo draw on a sheet?
Filippo uses his own paper in A3 format, it is ideal to draw 1-2 people. It has already happened that Filippo has put whole groups (to 8 persons) on one sheet, but it is to be considered that, the paper does not grow with the number of persons, then with increasing number people are represented smaller and smaller. It should be said that as the number increases, so too does the amount of composition and thus the time it takes to do so.
Does Filippo draw from a fixed position, or does he mix with the audience?
As well … as. It depends on the customer request. There are event situations where it makes perfect sense to mix constantly among the audience, eg. if there is a high density of artists (magicians, musicians, etc.), the yield of drawings is less. As a sole attraction during an event, however, it is advisable to draw from a fixed position, here you can play out the speed and form an attraction point.
Can company logos or product names be included on the drawing sheets?
Yes, this is not a problem. Filippo will order paper with your Event Theme, Company Logo or Product Name, so he saves a lot of valuable time during your event. Other motifs can be promoted effectively on the paper. You are welcome to discuss your request with Filippo and design the matching templates together with him.
How are the drawings packed?
Filippo hands out the drawings in rolled condition, tied with a rubber. This shape is the most practical and prevents the paper from buckling. However, other forms of packaging can be arranged with Filippo, transparent covers, reinforced bags, etc., but these are billed separately.
How long can I keep an option for Filippo?
An appointment option for a performance by Filippo can generally be held for one week. In some cases, the queries overlap, in which case you will be notified. If you want to make an appointment, you will always receive a commitment contract. Once the contract has been signed, you hold the appointment firmly in your hands.
How many breaks Filippo needs during a show?
Yes, sometimes Filippo needs a break. Generally, after 1.5-2 hours drawing, then Filippo needs 5-10 minutes break to move the legs, drink something and stretch his back.
Which language does Filippo speak?
Filippo is one of the people who knows no major language barriers. Filippo is fluent in German, Italian, English and Spanish and is thus predestined for use with international audiences.
How long can Filippo work?
Filippo is one of the “workhorses” of his trade and can work long hours. Performances of Filippo can be booked from 3 hours, multi-day performances, for example. at a fair, but should be limited to 8 hours a day.
Is Filippo also drawing digitally?
Yes, Filippo also draws on i-pad or Samsung tablet. The difference to the paper lies in the technical effort and in the dimension of the drawing which the guest receives. Use of digital means only makes sense if e.g. a larger audience should be entertained at the same time, on a monitor which is elevated, many people can enjoy the drawing process. The disadvantage in the matter lies in the disappointing experience of the guest, who receives no original, but only a small-scale print-out. A use of digital media and the associated equipment should be thoroughly discussed in advance with Filippo.
What does Filippo need for a show?
Filippo is a “show-lightweight” and only needs two chairs and a sufficiently lit environment, dim light and candlelight are therefore unsuitable for a performance. Everything else Filippo needs to draw, he has it himself.
Which places are suitable for Filippo?
Actually, everywhere, because Filippo does not need a lot of equipment except his block and pen, he is very flexible and can draw anywhere. Unsuitable for drawing are windy corners and sunlit outdoor areas.
How far from his place of residence is Filippo deployable?
Filippo can be booked Europe-wide and was already acting at various locations. Whether on the Ütliberg in Zurich, on the cruise ship in Greece, golf club on Mallorca or club in Amsterdam, Filippo has been nearly everywhere. What should be taken into account are the travel and travel costs as well as the accommodation costs, which are growing with increasing distance.
